🦈Playa del Carmen, Mexico!🏖️

⭐️Trip Highlights⭐️

  • Local Experience + Luxury Stay: Enjoy the coastal vibes of Playa Del Carmen 7 minutes from the beach!
  • Included Activities: Hidden cenotes, up close whale shark encounters, and manatee mangrove snorkeling!
  • Group Meals: Eat authentic Mexican food prepared for you by local chefs!
  • Free Time To Explore: Explore Mexico with a comfy home base to come back to at any time!
Every year, the Largest Fish in the world comes home for a Tropical Feast.
This is the Whale Shark.

Reaching lengths of over 50ft long, these ocean giants are filter feeders that migrate across the world’s oceans in search of plankton and krill.

Normally these animals are nearly impossible to find. But every year, HUNDREDS of Whale Sharks gather to feed off the coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula near Playa Del Carmen.

That provides a unique opportunity for lucky divers to swim with one of the biggest animals on the planet!

THE 6 DAY WHALE SHARK ECO-TOUR ITINERARY

Dates: August 3-9th, 2026

Day 1
Arrive In Playa Del Carmen At Our Beach Villa

Every eco-tour with WanderBlue comes with premium accommodations at a luxury home.

For this whale shark tour in Playa Del Carmen, you’ll be in a golf course villa with a pool just a 7 minute walk from the beach and authentic local restaurants.

Here you will enjoy group dinners in our epic dinning room…
Your own plushy, welcoming bed to rest after a long day of wilderness exploration...
And morning walks on white sand beaches where you will see iguanas, migrating birds, and maybe even green sea turtles playing in the waves…
When you arrive on Day 1, you'll head right to bed after dinner to be energized for the next morning of adventure!

Day 2
Swim In "Mexico’s Underworld" Cenotes

Hidden under the dense rainforests of Mexico is an underground river system that stretches for MILES in every direction.

In most places these rivers are hidden deep underground, but in a few hidden local spots, these rivers emerge and create something called “cenotes”.

From incredible caves with azure blue waters…
To shallow water jungle lagoons for soaking...
To deep mangrove adventure pools with world class snorkeling…
The cenotes around Playa Del Carmen are a world renowned phenomenon that draw in tourists from across the globe.

Because of this popularity, some cenotes require advanced reservations and waiting in line… but not for us😉.

Thanks to our local connections, we have the opportunity to visit private cenotes where you will see an untouched side of Mexico most people never get to experience.

Make sure you bring a snorkel!

Day 3
Whale Shark Boating Safari

You’ll wake up early on day 3 to head to the docks and board a small group tour boat.
In decades past, these boats were used to overfish the coastal waters of Mexico.

Animal numbers plummeted, fish stocks disappeared, and reefs were collapsing under extreme fishing pressure.

Today, thanks to intervention from local governments and ecotourism incentives, these boats have been repurposed for adventure ready travelers (like you) who want to swim with whale sharks!
Thanks to the support of travelers who pay for these tours, locals are making a better living and wildlife numbers are improving year after year.

Now, Mexico is one of the only places in the world you can reliably see abundant whale sharks in their natural habitat.

And the really special part?

With every tour, your money goes directly towards helping these incredible animals continue to bounce back from the brink of extinction.

Day 4
Manatee Tour In Hidden Cenote

There is a secret cenote oasis in Playa Del Carmen where the rarest mammal all of Mexico lives.

It's name?

The Antillean Manatee.
At approximately 9ft long and up to 1,000lbs, these jungle “sea cows” are specialists that live in mangrove swamps and cenotes along Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.

Due to habitat loss and past persecution by humans, there are only about 1,200 or so of these endangered manatees left in the world.

But, just South of Playa Del Carmen is a special place where local guides are trying to save these manatees by educating the public with snorkeling tours.

These tours are extremely limited with only a handful of guides who are licensed to access this location. But thanks to local connections, you will have the opportunity to get in the water with one of the biggest (and friendliest) mammals in Mexico.

As a note...

You will NOT be able to film in this location because of it’s secrecy, but you will have the chance to snorkel in close proximity with Antillean Manatees.

After your dive you will be fed locally made ceviche and be dropped off back at the house to relax.

Day 5
Free day in downtown Playa Del Carmen

Day 5 is a free day in downtown Playa Del Carmen.

If, by chance, we do not see the whale sharks or manatees on our first visit, we will use this day for a second tour to give you the best chance of seeing Mexico’s wildlife.

But, in the more likely scenario that you will have already seen whale sharks and manatees, this will be your day of solo adventure.

On every WanderBlue trip, attendees are encouraged to step off the beaten path to find your own experiences.

So get a cab, walk downtown, hike in the jungle, go to the beach, play golf, practice Spanish with the locals, and ADVENTURE to the maximum on this day.

After a day of solo adventuring we will meet for a group dinner at the beautiful secluded restaurant called “Jungle Gastrobar” with Mexico style fusion food.
We will tell stories across the table, share trip pictures, and enjoy a final luxury meal to finish our trip in Mexico.
Expect homemade tortillas, fresh fish, traditional Mexican desserts, and sampling platters for the whole table!
This will be our final luxury meal to complete our last night in Mexico.

Day 6
Pack Up And Head Home

You’ll get a ride to the local bus station where you will head back to the airport and fly home with wilderness experiences to last a lifetime.

Meet your guide

How Much Is It To Join The Whale Shark Eco-Tour In Playa Del Carmen?

Professional tours have can be incredibly expensive in many parts of the world…

But WanderBlue's goal is to give people access to the wildest places and animals on Earth at a price affordable for ANYONE who is loves nature, animals, and the outdoors.

So let's recap everything you get:

First off, everything is already laid out for you the moment you sign up for this eco-tour.

That means you don’t have to worry about:

Car rentals
Haggling with taxi drivers
Finding the right guide
Reserving a hotel
Filling out paperwork
Or any of the research on what to do when you actually get there

All of that is already taken care of for you so all you have to think about is getting the best shot of whale sharks!

Second, you’ll actually save money when you join this trip vs going solo.

That’s because instead of paying for everything yourself, WanderBlue Eco-Tours are a small group experience. And because we’re a small group, we get to save money on everything we do.

You can think about it like getting better prices buying bulk items at Costco.

WanderBlue Eco-Tours are the same thing.

Local guides give us better prices…

Restaurants plan ahead and treat us better with our reservations…

And staying in luxury accommodations (like our villa in Mexico) is a FRACTION of the price you’d spend for the same experience alone.

Not to mention, small group travel experiences are even BETTER than traveling alone a lot of the time.

Why?

Because you will have other travelers just like you to share every experience with.

When you see your first whale shark, you’ll have a friend with you to take pictures.

When you search for manatees, you’ll have multiple sets of eyes to help you find them.

And when you sit down for dinner, you’ll be able to share your stories from the day with people who are just as excited as you are.

So how much is all of that worth?

$5,000?

$7,000?

$10,000?

Those are regular prices for a lot of people when they travel... especially if they're inexperienced.

But WanderBlue Trips are designed to help your travels be easier, more affordable, and more FUN than “regular” trips.

That’s why you’re NOT going to spend $10,000 to swim with whale sharks in Mexico.

You’re NOT going to spend $7,500 to stay in a villa on the beach.

And you’re NOT going to spend $5,000 to swim with mantees in secret cenotes.

Instead, you can get the full experience with WanderBlue in Playa Del Carmen for just $2,500.
